How much water is “too much” on top of any winter cover?

You should try not to let more 4-6” at the most at any one time. What happens is you will displace pool water even if yours is an inground pool. You will never see water run off the top of a winter cover. It will push the pool water up and out resulting in a lower water level when you open it plus it causes extra stress on the edges of the pool and cover. We’ve seen the extra weight of the water ruin pool walls in the past. If you check out our Facebook page, we have a “Winter Cover” tips album with lots of ways to secure your winter cover so that it doesn’t blow off as well as videos as to how to remove the excess water.

What temperature do I need to keep my spa at?

This is a personal preference. There are no rules on what temp to set at except not to exceed 104 F due to health reasons. We recommend 99 to 100 F as this is close to normal body temp and is less likely to affect any medications you may be taking. Especially blood pressure as setting in a spa at any temp above 98 will lower your blood pressure and increase your circulation.

Service & Maintenance

I don’t use my spa very often. Do I still have to treat it weekly?

Yes! Bacteria loves warm water whether you are using it or not. You should always follow the weekly routine we make up for you to help prevent the growth of bacteria and other waterborne illnesses one can receive. We recommend shocking the spa once a week regardless of what system you are on. Please call us with any questions, 618-775-6543.

What do I need to do to my pool or spa before I go on vacation?

We recommend bringing in a water sample before you leave to make sure all your levels are good. If you have a spa, we recommend turning the temperature down to around 80 and making sure you have a sanitizer level before you leave. With a pool, you want to make sure your sanitizer and algicide levels are high in case of extreme heat or rain while you are gone. Sometimes, depending on how long you will be gone, we recommend putting the winter cover on if you won’t have anyone to check the skimmer basket daily.
